About Bobby K. Huen, Ph.D.

I come from conflict resolution. Not from law.

Most mediators are attorneys who added mediation to their practice. My path was different. I built my entire career around the academic study of conflict itself — how disputes escalate, why communication breaks down under pressure, and what conditions actually produce agreements that hold.

That distinction matters for the people I work with.

My Background

I am a Florida Supreme Court Certified Civil and Family Mediator with a doctorate in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University. I also hold graduate degrees in International Relations and International Communications from Boston University, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations.

Over the past six years I have personally handled more than 350 civil and family cases, working entirely virtually with individuals, families, attorneys, and organizations across the United States.

My academic training goes significantly beyond the short mediation courses required of many attorney-mediators. It gives me a research-grounded understanding of conflict dynamics that I bring to every case — from a contested divorce to a multi-party workplace dispute to a complex civil matter.

How I Work

Mediation works best when the focus is on the future, not the past. By the time most people arrive at mediation, they have spent months — sometimes years — cataloguing grievances and preparing their case. I understand that impulse. But the past cannot be undone.

What mediation can do is help people build a clear, workable path forward — one they had a real hand in shaping.

My approach is structured, focused, and direct. I ask hard questions when they are needed, move conversations forward when they stall, and keep the process grounded in what each party actually needs going forward — not what they wish had happened differently.

Every case is handled personally by me. You will never be handed off to an associate or junior colleague.

What I Handle

I provide mediation and conflict resolution services across a wide range of matters, including:

  • Civil and commercial disputes

  • Divorce and family mediation

  • Workplace and employment conflict

  • Property insurance disputes

  • HOA and condominium board disputes

  • Probate and estate matters

  • Business and partnership disputes

  • Organizational conflict consulting and facilitation

I am listed on the Florida Department of Financial Services mediator roster for property insurance disputes and am certified by the Florida Supreme Court for both civil and family mediation.

All services are provided virtually, making professional conflict resolution accessible nationwide — without geographic limitations or travel complications.

A Note on Inclusion

I welcome and actively support all families and relationships — including LGBTQ+ families, multicultural families, blended families, and non-traditional structures of every kind.

Every person who comes to me deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported throughout the process. That is not a policy statement. It is a genuine commitment.

Beyond Mediation

In addition to my conflict resolution practice, I serve as a news anchor for Queer News Tonight, Florida’s most watched LGBTQ+ media outlet. I bring the same analytical clarity I use in mediation to public discourse on complex social and political issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities.
